In praise of human commitment of GE people
I was awaked in the middle of the night by a telephone call to my wife who work as a volunteer at Rava NPH Italy Charity. A huge earthquake had ruined to rubbles the heart of Port au Prince Haiti. Thousands of casualties could be estimated when the dust of ruins was still hanging on the whole city. NPH people immediately reported that the NPH Orphanage which hosts 400 children and St. Damien NPH Pediatric Hospital, the largest in the Caribbean where still standing and no major casualties were registered, the guest house at Peitonville had collapsed, no news of the slum clinics and street schools which help to care and educate more than 6000 children in the slums. Then all lines went off for one day. NPH offices in Italy started a frenetic activity and within 36 hours 10 doctors and nurses had landed in Santo Domingo and reached by trucks with drugs and first aid devices St Damien Hospital.
