Congress on Gynaecological Oncology

In the past decade our view on the use of modern imaging techniques in gynecologic oncology has significantly changed, especially on the implementation of ultrasound in the diagnosis, clinical staging and follow-up of patients with malignant gynecological tumors.

Following ESGO-ESTRO-ESP Cervical cancer guidelines, mandatory initial work-up for assessment of local tumor extent and to guide treatment options is expert ultrasound or MRI performed by a physician dedicated in gynecologic oncology. An approach how to stage cervical cancer using ultrasound will be presented during live scan of a patient with new diagnosed cervical cancer.

Ultrasound plays also important role in clinical management of patients with uterine fibroids. Careful patient triage by ultrasound may reduce the risk of ‚undetected‘ sarcoma morcellation. During a lecture typical ultrasound features of uterine fibroids and suspicious ultrasound features of uterine sarcoma will be presented.
