Previewing the 2018 ACOG Conference

The 2018 ACOG conference in Austin, Texas, on April 27–30, is the premier place for medical professionals to learn about the latest in women's healthcare.

There's no other place where OB/GYNs can learn more about their specialty than the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting. The conference, which will be held in Austin, Texas, on April 27–30, is the premier place to learn about the latest in women's healthcare.

This year's ACOG conference, which will focus on medical and surgical innovations, includes more than 250 exhibitors that will showcase the newest products and services that can help you provide quality care to your patients. GE Healthcare will be among the exhibitors discussing the advances in ultrasound technology for gynecology.

Discussing Today's Most Critical Gynecology Topics

ACOG outlined several meeting objectives for this year's event, including:

  • Identifying the most recent innovations in women's healthcare;
  • Citing pros and cons of surgical versus nonsurgical treatment of fibroids;
  • Describing strategies for the treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding; and
  • Determining whether all women deserve access to a high-volume gynecologic surgeon.

The conference will have a new format this year, with the Opening Session and President's Program starting on Friday, April 27. The President's Program will feature a women's health roundtable to address current and future women's health challenges. In addition, ACOG has upped the ante with a unique blend of session types to discuss and debate new procedures and studies, including:

  • Colloquia — Keynote lectures that will feature debates on current and controversial topics;
  • Clinical Seminars — Interactive lectures on topics of special interest with a course director leading the discussion;
  • Cutting-Edge Topics — A panel session of presidents from subspecialty societies who will bring you up to date on hot topics and current trends;
  • Flipped Classrooms — A new style of adult learning that features interactive, comprehensive learning and retention; and
  • Trifecta Clinical Seminars — A new session that will host three clinical seminars on a similar topic in one room. For example, one of the seminars will feature a broad discussion on ultrasound, including a presentation on anomalies and an overview of what specialists should know about the technology in 2018.

Sessions will cover critical gynecology topics of the day, such as chronic pelvic pain, advanced operative laparoscopy, minimally invasive management of adnexal masses, dysmenorrhea, cervical cancer screening and management of abnormal cytology, uterine fibroid treatment and helping patients choose the right IUD.

Learning Opportunities at the 2018 ACOG Conference

There will also be ample time to learn about important practice management issues, with sessions focused on the gender gap in OB/GYN, health system leadership, team training, blood management in a general practice, incorporating obesity medicine into a practice and more.

As always, the ACOG conference will offer several three- and six-hour postgraduate courses in which attendees can take part in didactic and interactive learning about the latest technologies and procedures.
